The village of Tambor is located on the
horseshoe-shaped Bahia Ballenas (Whale Bay), which is called that
because whales are known to come into to the bay to show themselves off.
The village of Tambor has a number of truly great restaurants
and bar/restaurants.
For typical Tico (Costa Rican) food, try Cristina's. A really good meal can be had for as little as
three or four USD$. Throw in a beer for about a buck and
seventy-five and ... enjoy! If you stop there during the day for a
cooling drink, try a "batido" (pronounced like "baw -
tee - doe" with the emphasis on the second syllable). It's a
favourite Tico drink - fruit, ice and your choice of milk or water - shaken to
death in a blender!
The Beachcomber Bar is
the place for an evening of food, drink
and good times. Run by an absolutely great American couple, it serves what
they term "American South-west Truckstop" food - pizza, burgers and
fries, and burritos! Friday night, it's live '60's Rock
and Roll; other nights there are (FREE) movies on their
zillion inch outdoor screen. Careful of the shooters though, folks!
