| San Jose is the capital of the country. It's well worth a day for shopping and sightseeing. Or you can go to the National Theatre. Arenal, an intermittently active volcano, is an absolute "have-to-see". Spending a couple days there will make your trip to Costa Rica something to remember always. The hot springs and gardens at Tabacon are the most beautiful place in the world (or, at least, one of the most!) Click here to go to the website for the area. Monteverde (Cloud Forest Region) Take a trip Santa Elena, obviously a part of Tolkien's Hobbit world! Weird and wonderful vegetation; orchids growing wild; roots that reach from 50 or 100 feet up a tree through the air to grow into the ground to feed a plant living on tree; flaming flowers; (relatively) little "black turkeys" feeding ong the fruit in the trees. Lovely birds flitting around. Suspension bridges that let you walk 150 feet or so above the gorges.
